I once read a discussion on someone’s blog about how they were opposed to re-tweeting other people’s tweets.

Over several days/weeks/months the blog reflected feedback from his followers that basically caused the author to change his position on the subject.  Re-tweeting (re-posting, re-sharing, etc) content is a valuable aspect of the social experience.  The more people who “chime in” on the same content cause trends to form on the social media sites.  These trends are interesting and useful because it can literally translate into an indicator for top of mind awareness of the masses.

More important than the trend analysis though, Re-tweeting is an important part of the social experience for two reasons:  First, Just because if you read something does not mean the people who follow you have read it.  Second, By re-tweeting you are ensuring that your followers know where you stand on an issue.  I would rather have 10 likeminded followers who buy into my position than 100 followers who don’t know what my position is, and therefor really don’t know me at all. Contribute by re-tweeting information that you feel is important to you and to others.  Consider having a discussion about your feelings towards someone else’s posting.
