Claim your Google Places Page

Google places is an easy way to promote your business and improve your search-ability with Google.

The next stop on the Social Media Roadmap: Claim your Google Places Page

A Google place page displays on the right of a normal page and is more easily searchable for much of the content.  Google Places is a free service from Google, and requires about 10 minutes to get setup with.  To get started:

                Browse to www.google.com/places

Click on “Get Started” under “Claim your business listing on Google”

Sign in with your newly created Google Email

Next, you will need to enter your business phone number to search

When your business location shows up click “edit” and start updating the information. Google already has most business information, but you can still edit it with any additional business details you wish.  Make sure to add multiple ways for your potential customers to find you. You should add your website URL, your physical address, and an email, preferably matches your business website domain name.  It is a good idea to post photos and any information that might help people find you.  After you have all your information updated, it will ask you to verify your new business listing. Verify all the information you entered is correct in order to get your PIN. In the US you can only verify by SMS (Short Message Service), and by phone.  The reason for verifying your business is for Google to know that you are the business owner or representative.  When you receive your PIN you will need to enter it in Google Places in the box associated with the listing you are trying to verify.  Your business will then be incorporated into Google Maps within six weeks
