Bruce Goes to Hollywood!

Written by
BRUCE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD

Bruce Schorle from TS Tech was featured by Symantec, the fourth largest software manufacture, in a video talking about how TS Tech uses Symantec Antivirus Software to limit and control virus infections.  While Bruce did venture to California last year on an all expenses trip courtesy of Symantec, this video was shot at TS Tech in Wyomissing.  During last year’s trip to Symantec, Bruce discussed the Symantec Antivirus tool with the product development team.  Needless to say, he captured Symantec's attention and in December 2011, Symantec flew a video crew in to film Bruce and Todd and one of our clients for about a day.  The first video to be released from the footage was used by Symantec in February at their Rome Italy conference, and then again at a series of 23 Nationwide IT conferences held for other IT companies throughout the US during February.   The original footage is still in post-production to be released focusing more on TS Tech and our client JDR Fixtures.  Keep an eye on our YouTube page for more updates, and checkout the current video interviews here!

ts tech mini logoWhen Disaster Strikes - The Big Bad Wolf
by Chris Geiser, PCS Technology

It may be superstition, but many of us still believe that catastrophes come in 3s. In the case of a catastrophic loss of business facility (i.e. hurricane, earthquake, waterlogging of fire hoses), many businesses get to experience all three of these catastrophes within the span of a few short days (or even hours).

Firstly, one must endure the physical and emotional trauma of experiencing the actual disaster. Secondly, one must pick through the pieces and assess how bad things really are. Thirdly, and the most delicate, will be communicating with employees and customers, having to tell them what’s happened, how bad it is, and what uncertainties the future holds.

A Backup System Alone is Not a Disaster Recovery Plan
Most small business managers rise to their positions because they have the vision and drive to succeed. For them, planning for a disaster can feel like planning to fail. They don’t like to think about what a disaster would do to their business continuity, so they don’t. Of course, they approve the expense of a company backup system. However, when disaster strikes, that so-called “backup” system takes on the role of “recovery” system. Suddenly, its performance limitations have severe consequence.

The Three Little Pigs
Okay, so we know that small business managers hate to envision their company going through a disaster, but we have important simulations to run here. So to lessen the trauma, and in sticking with the theme of 3s, we’re employing the help of the Three Little Pigs.

ts tech mini logoThe Future of Windows
written by David Tan, Chief Technology Office, CHIPS Technology Group LLC

windows november_2011_newsletterMicrosoft held their first ever Build Conference in Anaheim in September. It’s a new annual event for Windows developers to gather and learn about building applications for the Windows platform. This one was special not only because it was the first, but also because leading up to it, all the buzz was about how much of Windows 8 Microsoft would show and what details we would learn about the next version of the most popular operating system in the world.

Microsoft did not disappoint. They have showed demos, talked about features and functions, and even made an open beta immediately available to all who are interested to download, play with, and Microsoft hopes develop applications for. The buzz leading up to the conference has grown into a fever pitch with partners, developers, and customers all extremely excited about the next Windows release. What is it about this platform that Microsoft is doing right, and why is everyone so excited?

First off, Windows has a new look and feel. The next interface, dubbed “Metro” represents the single biggest change to the Windows interface since the additions of the Start button back in 1995. It has been completely revamped from the ground up. It is a radical departure. The traditional desktop and icons have been replaced by dynamic tiles. These tiles will not only allow you to interact with program, but will allow the applications to communicate with the user by surfacing key messages, data, or photos, depending on the needs.

Todd Schorle presents at Quosal Nation

Written by

Todd presents three tips on how to improve your technology proposals at the First Quosal Nation Event during the IT Nation 2011 pre-event program

First: Sign up for and use online credit card processing with order porter.  It is extremely easy to setup, people love to shop and pay online, people want to earn Amex points and it simplifies your collections process.

Second: Have your Quotes & Order Porter tie into your website.  Link the quote back with different pages on your website to provide supplemental information.  We do this with or satisfaction guarantee and information about our services.

Third: Review Large project quotes in person.  Quosal is a great tool for organizing your proposal, but there is no substitution for face time with your prospective client.  By sitting down in person and reviewing a proposal you are able to address any concerns and questions that might arise from the content of the proposal.

Todd Schorle joins the Level Platforms afternoon partner panel event in Orlando Florida for "The Next Level" to share information with other IT partners about our favorite features in Level Platforms.

The top report used by TS TECH is our daily backup success audit report.  Many IT companies audit for backup failures only, we audit for backup success.  This ensures that that failed services and on-hold jobs are identified and corrected.   Our backup success audit report is delivered to our engineers and key managers each morning, enabling us to quickly digest backup data on over 75 servers and audit the operation in less time then it takes you to eat a breakfast bar.

Todd Schorle attends Dr. Leonard Tau's lecture on "21st Century Marketing: What every Dentist Must Know to Thrive in the New Economy" at Radisson Valley Forge. Where he recieved valuable information on Twitter, Google Places, creating a Facebook Page and how to use QR codes for his business. He also learned that online reputation is very important to a business, any one bad review can turn away many customers. Keep track of your online reviews and be aware of what people are saying about your business.

ts tech mini logo3 Steps to Streamline Your Next Project
Reprinted with permission from the Microsoft Small Business Center

mc9003916921.gif october_2011_newsletterHave you ever had a project "go sideways" on you? When it happens to you, it feels like you are treading water. You're working hard, but going nowhere. After building a beautiful coordinated project plan in Microsoft Project or Microsoft Excel, your dates start slipping. You can see that too much time is being wasted on unnecessary communications, but how do you take back control? Typically, the problem isn't in the upfront planning, it's in the ongoing communication and collaboration.

Follow these three steps to ensure all team members are on the same page, making progress to your mutual goal.

1. Create a collaboration site. Endless hours are wasted and bandwidth consumed from circulating documents via email. The larger the project, the worse this problem becomes. Because the document isn't centrally stored, multiple versions are created, and that's where questions and confusion pop-up.

ts tech mini logoProtecting your wireless network
reprinted with permission from the HP Small Business Center

mc9004393591 october_2011_newsletterWhy wireless security?
When you have a wireless network, you need to make sure it's kept secure. An unencrypted network presents the potential for security breaches.

Wireless technologies that provide long-range connectivity can't be contained within an office. When you use a network that's not secure, hackers could potentially "capture" the information you're sending back and forth. This means passwords, records, and more.

Isn't my network already secure?
With some older wireless technologies, like Bluetooth, access is limited by physical proximity to the corporate network. However, wireless technologies that provide long-range connectivity, such as 802.11n, can't be contained within an office space. That means anyone within range of a non-secure network can gain access.

Continuity Tip

A Plan to Rely On
During a disaster, you, your family, your employees, and your neighbors will rely on each other for help. There is a shared responsibility when it comes to your level of preparedness. To be truly prepared, everyone has to work together as a team.

The Red Cross encourages three actions with their "Be Red Cross Ready" campaign: Get a Kit, Make a Plan, and Be Informed. The worst time to scramble for solutions is during an emergency. Start making personal, family, and community preparations now, so you know who to rely on.
