Un-managed computers = RISK (If you are not enrolled in a “Managed Services” plan, Read This Closely!)
|

|
Let’s face it, there are few businesses these days who have not felt the effects of the economic crisis. Within the last few months, the feedback I’ve received from non-managed clients is “we’re having small computer problems, but cash is tight and we’re not ready to have them fixed right now.” This is normal for a “break-fix” approach to computers and technology, but it always concerns me since the risk of letting small problems go is usually much greater than managers/owners ever realize. Often those small problems are warning signs of larger issues, and can become serious if left unsolved. |
As a small business owner, I understand the hard choices that we all face in these tough economic times, however, in the last 13 years I’ve also seen too many businesses suffer data loss - financial data as well as customer and project data - and struggle through the vast task (and cost) of rebuilding. Whether it’s a hard drive crash, fire, flood, or virus that infects an entire network, the reality is this--you take on enormous risk if you are not constantly monitoring your computer systems and network, and taking preventative action to stop problems before they start.
TS TECH’s Managed Services plans provide your business with a proactive and preventative approach to managing your computer network and supporting your staff, including:
- Proactive monitoring of your computer systems for things like:
| - viruses, hard drive space, internal errors, warning signs of problems, etc. |
- Installing software patches as soon as they become available and other prevention steps
- Checking your data backup system daily to ensure successful backups
- Lifecycle planning for your computers and servers
- Live remote helpdesk support to answer any questions

e-Waste: Think Twice Before you Toss
| |
|
|

|
With Earth Day just around the corner, it is the right time to touch on an important topic – recycling and responsibly handling your e-waste (ie., your old electronics and equipment). More than 130,000 computers and 1 million cell phones are discarded everyday in the U.S. Most end up in local landfills, some are shipped overseas where there are virtually no safety regulations regarding dumping or processing. |
Electronics contain mercury, chromium, and PVCs; CRT monitors may contain as much as three pounds of lead, and printer toner is hazardous to breathe. These chemicals and waste products contaminate not only the ground water of the landfill they are dumped into, but the surrounding community as well.
TS TECH is committed to environmental responsibility and offers recycling of computers, monitors, and other computer equipment to our customers. We also encourage clients to explore ‘Freecycling’ at www.freecycle.com, a grassroots site that can match you to someone who can use your old equipment. Another site, www.earth911.org, offers an interesting listing of manufactures with ‘take back’ programs to return your product to the company who manufactured it or the retailers who sold it.
PROTECT YOUR DATA Before you part with the old equipment, be sure to have it wiped clean of your old data. Often, old equipment is simply loaded on a container ship and sent overseas intact, to be pieced apart in a country where the cost of labor is not as high. Devices like cell phones, PDAs, and computers often contain sensitive information that you might not want to fall into the wrong hands.
TS TECH recommends physical destruction of computer hard disk drives to remove any private data. We offer this service for an industry-standard small fee, and provide a letter upon request that certifies your drive and sensitive information have been completely destroyed.

HP wants to make maintaining an environmentally conscious workplace a reality for businesses everywhere.
